Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) is a new respiratory illness that has not previously been seen in humans.
It is likely transmitted by cough droplets and spreads rapidly between people. There is currently no treatment for the virus and the symptoms usually include:
- a cough
- a high temperature
- difficulty breathing
The World Health Organisation has offered this advice:
'Standard recommendations to prevent infection spread include regular hand washing, covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, thoroughly cooking meat and eggs. Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.'
Please note that not all hand sanitisers are effective against viruses. Alcohol based sanitisers in particular are ineffective. Wash hands thoroughly and regularly with soap and hot water and use a non alcohol hand sanitiser tested to kill viruses.
